The Test of the Cross

Choosing Jesus Over Everything Else

Small Beginnings with God = Big Endings!

We should not be discouraged by small beginnings, because with God small beginnings always lead to big endings. One of my favorite bible passages is Zechariah 4:10. It states “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin (NLT).”   In my life I am in that beginning phase in relation to ministry. Sometimes I feel so insignificant, because I do not have the big opportunities to minister. Every now and again I’ll ask God “umm are You sure You called me to be a pastor one day, because God all I have in my hands is a blog, an extremely small bible study, and I am a deacon in training at church. So God, are You sure??” Sometimes He will respond and the responses are simply “yes”. Small beginnings can be challenging. It can be frustrating to know where you currently are and know where God wants you to be, but not know the in-between.  But worry not because the bible is full of people with very humble beginnings. Remember King David? He was a lowly shepherd overlooked by his family, but He trusted God and went on to slay giants and reign over all of Israel.  Great things David did, but He did not achieve these things because he had a big bank account or knew influential men. He did big things because he believed God was bigger than his present situation.  He dared to trust God’s plan for his life and I think I can safely say it worked out well for him. Now think about Jesus. He is our savior and we esteem Him with the title King of kings. However, Jesus was not born in a palace, rather He was born in a manger, a place where barn animals eat. It can not get much lower than that. Yet God still raised him up to be the method in which we can have our sins forgiven and our relationship with God restored. Jesus is our ultimate example of a humble start and a great finish.  God likes to use lowly people to do great things, because it displays His power to the world. So if you are like me, Jesus, David, and countless others, fret not over your small beginnings, because God will use the insignificant to prove His significance. It is not over till God says it is over. If you stay in the will of God it will not be over for you till God uses you to make His already great name even greater.

  2. Hi Brandon,

Be encouraged! What God has for you, it is for you! “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Before you, are endless possibilities! Pray without ceasing, that the Lord would direct your path, and order your steps! God bless you! Stay on fire for the Lord!
